"I though I was prepared, but he's worse than I expected. Much worse."
Bill says it all. I knew it was going to be great. I knew it was going to be sad and heartbreaking. I knew it was going to be suspenseful and I knew I was going to be grabbed in the opening minutes. But I wasn't prepared for how great it really was. I wasn't prepared.
After that serious note, did you know that Bill Morrison was a circus clown? That's hilarious. He said he wanted to be a rodeo clown, but it ended up that "I was just a woosy old circus clown." The man's awesome.
Okay, I can't say much more here for fear of spoilers for the people who aren't watching the Golden Globes tonight and so haven't yet seen the second two hours. Pretty promo picture, then cut.

( Today I can die for something. My way. My choice. )

| Top Ten Shows of 2006, or A Succesful Form of Procrastination |
[31 Dec 2006|01:51pm] |
|
2006 is winding down in the next twelve hours, so as I’m taking a break from unpacking I thought I’d make my addition to the rash of Top Ten lists gracing the Internet these days. I know everyone’s really sick of them, but what’s one more, right?
This is going to be a little bit of. I’m a little bit behind on Scrubs, so I cannot comment on this year’s episodes, although I’m sure they would be on here if I was caught up. Also, I have only watched parts of Friday Night Lights, but would venture to guess that it will be on this list by the end of next year. With that said, here we go . . .
( Cut for Spoilery Top Ten list )

"To T-Bag" should really become part of vernacular.
Fun fact of the day:
I finally listened to the commentary for Unfinished Business - done with Grace and Helo, by the way, which was really fun - and apparently I can still be ridiculously naive at times. Good thing? I don't know, but anyways, so I had thought that Adama and Roslin were just smoking cigarettes - Grace thought they were cigars, so I'm feeling a little less bad. But apparently they're getting high, lieing around on New Caprica, drinking, smoking, and talking about building a cabin up by the stream. It really was quite a wonderful scene.

In other news, Michael Ausiello says that Mahone isn't dead. I was hoping he was more resiliant than a bullet from Kellerman, but it was nice to have it confirmed. After watching Invasion over the past couple of weeks, I've decided that William Fichtner really is the best guy for the job of creepy, intelligent alien/FBI agent. He's going right up there with T-Bag and Henry Gale.
Well, that's all the innane thoughts for the day. Merry day after Christmas everyone

I wouldn't want to do anything to waste your wnis - I really do love Chandler. And now Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford are going to be on TV together - the actors of my two favorite characters reading lines from Aaron Sorkin, directed by Tommy Schlamme - I'm not gonna know what to do with myself.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - Thursdays at 9 (or, 8 my time) - starting in September, I've really got to find something else to think about for the next three months

counting down the hours - ted leo |
] |
wow, it's almost been two months - i really need to stay more on top of things. so, it's been so long, i don't knew where to start - no, i do. wednesday night - i've been in such awful moods lately that the season finale was exactly what i needed - i was grinning the next day at work in my dark little bookshelves, singing to my music and grinning over leo, really, it was quite amusing - so, the highlights in pictures: (warning: this update is gonna be full of inane pictures i've been gathering over the last few weeks, so be prepared)
first, poor josh curled in some dark corner of the convention center:

and, well, he's adorable and i can't resist:

then, leo's face when josh asks him, priceless:

great jed/leo passing-of-torch moment-thing:

and, finally, santos-mcgarry for america :-) :

i'm such a dork - i know - but, whatever. so, santos and vinick have contracts for next season, hmm . . . i really have to get internet access in europe, not to mention the fact that qaf doesn't start until may 22, so i'm gonna be gone for the whole second half :-( caits and i spent forever watching that little clip on showtime the other day - it was great, but does brian say "it's time for you to move on" or "it's time for him . . ." please, please, let it be "you" (he's talking to michael at the time) - anyways . . .
so, tv obsessions are just growing. it's bad, really. every day i go to class, go to work, go back to class, go to otium, eat, then watch tv - i really need to do work (note to self: talk 'bout otium later). so, l word's actually pretty good this season - really, everyone's hot, of course shane (for you, eir) but everyone, really - well, except that tanya girl who i hate and thank god she's gone now - anyways, oops, i'm probably giving away spoilers or something, but really, you should all watch it, or i have it all on cd so we can watch it when we get home (atleast i'm gonna make elizabeth, since we're gonna have four or so weeks with absolutely nothing to do - hehe). and, picture . . . nope, sorry, no picture (how did i miss that when i was crazily screencapping?)
but, hehe, i do have more tv obsessions with actual pcitures. so, after weeks of crazily price comparing online, i fianlly took a little trip downtown last firday. except, the barnes and nobles i mapped otu how to get to didn't have a cd section, so this woman was like, 'take that diagonal crossroad over there and walk for three miles.' so, first, that's a really long walk when it's decievingly sunny but still pretty cold out, and, second, i couldn't find any diagonal streets, so, i just hopped back on the el, and got off at the next stop and called my mom, who gave me an address fro the b&n that put it in the middle of a construction wasteland. so, i kept asking people and calling the store, adn in the meantime found a j crew (which was really, really fun) and a best buy and a gap and a guess and, really, i thought i was back in civilization again, but, anyways, three hours later i fianlly found the store (really, what i do for b&n's). but, it was worth it, cuz i bought the fourth season of west wing and, finally, sports night - which is aaron sorkin's first show, after nbc told him that no one does shoes about politics and to try somehting else and it's this half an hour 'comedy' that's really a drama, so it's brilliant, but only critics thought so and the american public coudln't deal. but, anyways, it is brilliant (really, my love for aaron sorkin is a bit unnatrual) - the dialogue is wonderful, and the characters are great (and slashy :-) ) plus, donna makes an appearance, and so does lisa, and dana is the girl who screwed toby over in 'leadership breakfast' (wow, sorry, that probably just made no sense, but . . . ) and, fainlly, i actually understand why people like joshua malina - i really, truly hate will (his character on west wing - the one who took sam's place), but on sports night he's wonderful and geeky and just so good - here are some increduably dorky pictures from the pilot (he does get a little bit less geeky, but these are just so funny):

okay, anyways, sorry, that was a really long rant that probably made very little sense. so, my life's really lame - i don't really like my classes, they're just so boring, but i really like work - it's kind of soothing to put books away, it keeps my hands busy and makes me think enough so that i'm not bored but not so much that it makes me really tired and sick of it and such . . . so, i guess i couldn't ask for more there, since really that's where i spend most of my time anyways, that, and otium
okay, here's my little otium plug : READ IT. the second issue is already up - i'm such a bad person for not positing about it earlier, but . . . we have some really famous writers that our advisor got - liek elif shafak (this turkish writer who i saw speak, and she read this chapter about learnign english in turkey and it's just so . . . so, perfect), and th eauthor of 'trumpet' and 'burning' and, yeah, just go read, please (i'm begging) oh, and there's nice little pictures, too, and estrilita (our iguana) so, yeah :
otium.uchicago.edu
otium. leisure. read.
okay, well, so, caits and i were playing around the other day and found this comic:

and, there were others (including one with a ferret that caits said she'd kill me if i posted), but, i've posted way too many pictures, so i'll save those for later. so, just, finally, both sets of my boys say goodnight

good night everyone - love you all

just got off the phone, and should really, really be doing physci, but, you know, i haven't updated since january, so i want to say hi to everyone, and regail you with quotes and pictures and, you know, live journal-esque things
first, oh, caits, i love you so much, you know that? really, i probably should hate you for this picture, but, reallly, i'm too busy laughing (i think harry's doubled over as well, the impertinent little brat) :

oh, sev, really . . . so, i was at starbucks downtown on sunday cuz i couldn't stand hyde park any longer, and i was working on application stuff, but needed a break, so started reading this harry/sev story that was finally (:-)) updated and i had saved - so, it was really funny and i kept just laughing out loud and everyone would look wierdly at me, and the guys working would smile this creepy smiles and all the people outside (cuz they're these huge glass windows) gave me wierd looks . . . it was classic
spend all last friday actually eating good food (the dining hall has decided that chicken and rice are pretty safe foods, so make them for every single meal, and you know, i don't really eat them, so, pizza was good) and putting plays into html format - the magazine should be up soon (fingers crossed) and i'll update the link once it is, it's gonna look really good! - and talking to this grad student who's doing his thesis on the time structure in alias - so fucking cool!!!! and we got to talk about west wing (sighs) such a nice relief - i don't get to talk bout it enough, you know?
so, you guys are gonna get your dose here, but first, here's a little screen cap i grabbed while watching my movie for my film paper - sex in chains - i know, great title, huh? and, it was a great movie - these two guys are in jail and fall in love and lie awake at night and hold hands and whisper and it's just . . . adorable - remind me, and we'll all have to watch it some time. but, here's the picture :

so, the guy on the left is one of the guys - the one of the right isn't actually his partner, but my thesis was partly that he slept with this guy first (shrugs) maybe . . .
kay, so tonight's episode was actually okay - josh orders men to dress up at chickens and then donna yells at them and cj is actually in teh episode for a moment to laugh at josh bout it, and then santos speaks truthfully on tv and russell's losing steam, so that's good . . . and, apparently, josh and toby are gonna brawl next episode, i don't get it, neither does natalie, hmm . . . but, my nightly watching is goign quite well - i forgot how good the last six episodes of season two are, and, this scene in stackhouse filibuster:

there's candlelight, and fancy plates, and roses, and, look:

oh, jed, you're just begging me to write a story, i know, and i'll get round to it soon, i suppose that's what aspen's for, writing wonderful jed/leo moments. and, oh, i was watching the commentary for "in the shadow of two gunmen" and aaron sorkin and tommy schlamme (the director) were talking, and this is what they say when leo first walks in and jed's lieing in the emergency room (note: leo's played by john spencer): "John's wonderful right there, at this moment, when he sees him for the first- . . . and he just has this sense of responsibility and purpose . . . and clearly in this moment undying love"
hehe, and then, in the same episode, bradley whitford and janel moloney (who play josh and donna) are talking when josh goes to gage-whitney to get sam and take him to nassau : "here's teh real romance in the show. 'wanna go get a hot dog?' it's clear what's happening" "an early morning hot dog." "ahh, 'i miss you.' kisses." it's was great, really, they admitted it, i love slash so, so much . . . and here's a little picture of my boys:

it's kind of a blurry screen cap, but do you see the look?
kay, it's 12:30 and i have to go do physci so i can study for math tomorrow, but i love you all and miss you terribly

ted leo - great communicator |
] |
aaron sorkin is a genius - he's brilliant . . . really, that's all i can say, just, listen :
Leo "How was the flight?" CJ "It was-" President "Great!" CJ " -- gruesome. 'If you'll look out the left side of the cabin, you'll see the fjords.' Then we got a history of the fjords. then we got a quiz on the fjords. [to the President] Do you know how much I would like to dress you up in lederhosen and drop kick you into the fjords right now?"
hehe, gotta love CJ, so, so much. and, he leaves so many moments open for slash, really, he's just asking for it :
Jed(the Presdient) "Be subject to one another, Leo. What can I do to be subject to you?" and Jed [to Leo] "Honey, if we're gonna have this fight, can we not have it infront of the Joint Chiefs? It just scares the hell out of them." and . . . well, i'm not gonna make you read any more, well, not yet atleast (hehe), so i'm gonna give you a pretty picture of CJ instead, well, perhaps not pretty, but just . . . perfect

kay, really, so we've observed that aaron sorkin's hilarious, and we've determined that he's so, so slashy, but, still, not a genius,so, just, just read this and he's just so good at describing the way things really are :
"I didn't want to start writing something of my own becasue to do that I'd have to start writing soemthing. I love writing but hate starting. The page is awfully white and it says, 'You may have fooled some of the people some of the time but those days are over, </i> giftless</i>. I'm not your agent and I'm not your mommy, I'm a white piece of paper, you wana dance with me?' and I really, really don't. I don't want any trouble. I'll go peaceable-like."
god, genius. really, he manages to say these things so real-like, but so funny in a way that makes natalie and i sit shivering in the tv lounge just laughing half-way through commercial breaks. it's great! so, yeah, the quarter has finally settled down - why did it take four fuckign weeks?! oh well, i've got this great little schedule. i get up, go to class, come back for dinner, work until ten, watch west wing from ten to eleven, finish work, watch my west wing dvds, read until my eyes shut on me. and, i spend some time paying with icons adn writing (well, i kinda do that in class, but you know . . . ) and talking with peoples. and, of course, i still have lit mag - which, i think, we're gonna have a website for this week (crosses fingers) which will be awesome! and, i do have other stuff,a dn things always fuck with my little schedule, but, you know, it's there, and that's all that really matters.
my film class is amazing. it's all about studying history and films and gay men. what could be better? really? we watched this silent film last week that was kind of like oscar wilde's story, but there was this blackmailer cause paul went to a gay club where they all danced around in these masquerade-like embraces, it was just wonderful. and then we watched a movie about a girls school in nazi germany and the girl fell in love with her teacher and tried to kill herself when teh teacher had to pretend not to lover her back, but then the teacher yelled the girl's name and went running after her - ahh, who said that slash is in our minds?
(franz, the blackmailer is in the foreground, paul in teh back - oh, and paul was in a beautiful relationship with one of his music students!)
oh, so in hum, we're, or we were, reading arabian nights and it's just wonderful - it's this amazing study of storytelling and human curiousity and belief of the fantastic and . . . sigh . . . it's wonderful, and everyone else was so against it (god, my hum class is so obnoxious), but the stories were just so rich, and now this new thing is pretty awful, but then we get to read nietzsche, and paddi and i give our little speach thing, and it's all gonna be rather amusing
also, i'm reading the last patricia nell warren book that i have not read - the beauty queen - (well, not including that wierd indian one, but i dont' think i'm gonna ever do that, so . . . ) and the daughter is such a jerk - she wants to be governer of new york and she's campaigning on this whole anti-gay thing becasue families are so important, but she leaves her children in the random countryside and only visits to hit them with a cane for getting dirty and talking to boys . . . ugh, i kinda just wanna kill her, but her dad's awesome and is having this great secret affair with teh ceo of the rolls-royce office in new york, the whole thing's great . . . speaking of which, i probably should stop typing cause this thing's gone on forever, adn i'm sorry if you're still reading reading it, and go read my book for a bit
'night everyone, love you all so much

Well I heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do ya? Well it goes like this : The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya And she tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...
(Yeah but) Baby I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor, (You know) I used to live alone before I knew ya And I've seen your flag on the marble arch and love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well there was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me do ya But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah...
Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya It's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah…

hehe, four and a half hours of my boys and working on . . . christmas stuff -- gods, i love my life :-) let's see . . . rochester's all snowy, its beautiful, fucking beautiful, too bad its also 4 degrees (shrugs) but what can you do, give some take some - well, speaking of beautiful things, saw lemony snicket and old, wooden houses are fucking amazing and something about a secret society that really, really pulled the whole thing together, i think i'm really too obsessed with those sorts of things, but, hey, its getting me to read the books (reminds self to ask em later for first one) see :

and, i've dowloaded a wonderful, wonderful screencapping program so that i can cap fucking anything. anything. ahh, now i just need to get my fingers on those dvds and . . . oh, the world's opportunities
anyways, so i was in boston all week!!! it was amazing (note: will have pictures up later, when camera is hooded up to darren and he is liking me a little bit more than he does right now) - ate good food and met great people (by the way, lizabeth, good job finding slashers like michel and heahter, or alteast, to-be-slashers, i need to get working bout that) and beautiful old book shopping and shopping, ahh, newbury street and cds and placebo dvds being played at major record stores and meeting pretty boys from boston who saw brian in england! ahh, too much to talk about, really, when i'm too sick to really think bout what i'm doing, so will redo this whole part later
found screencaps of young americans a bit ago, very exciting

and now my boys say goodnight

hehe, my dorm's funny this morning - most people are gone, or are writing long, ridiculous papers and have been up all night ('m sorry guys, all my sympathies) and are quite amusing this morning hehe :-) 'kay, i am done, all done (lays back for a moment to bask in glory of no work for three fucking weeks, except the 22 stories for otium, but not thinking bout that)
(sam and josh seem to think so, too) - really, it sucked, i dont remmeber ever doing this much work in the span of ten days, never, not even when i had seven ap exams in a week span, but it's done, and some went well and im really just not gonna think bout the ohters (caugh old english caugh)
oooooh, and guess what, i'm really excited for next term - read what i'm taking : 20901. Sexuality and Censorship in Pre-Stonewall Film. (=GNDR 27701) This course examines the representation of queer sexuality and culture in classical Hollywood films from silent film to 1970. We pay particular attention to the changing modes of Hollywood production; the impact of censorship before, during, and after the Hays Code; the shifting codes used to connote queerness (even when it was prohibited); and the ways different audiences read these codes. We analyze these representational shifts in relationship to broader changes in the understanding of gender and same-sex desire. Finally, Hollywood films are compared to experimental film and early German cinema. R. Gregg. Winter, 2005.
does it just look wonderful?! like all the courses ive been writing in my head the last seven years . . . ahh, im so excited, its gonna be so great - two screenings a week - thats six hours of little gay men running around on screen a week, for ten weeks . . . fuck, i love my school
so caits and i went to belmont yesterday (fuck, i love that place) - had amazing thai food and met really nice man in little store (reminded me a lot of that place in paris - where we bought the bootlegs) and he was awesome and heard us talking about guster so put it on and gave me free scissor sisters record cover so i could come home and do more of my wall . . . its starting to look, well, not complete, but its getting there (not like it will ever be complete, but you know what i mean)
ooh, look guys, i updated my info page! it fucking took me forever, but its done, and the old one was driving me crazy and the pictures werent very good and half and working and . . . yeah, well, its new now, so . . . check it out
went to franz sunday night!!!!! they stole my camera battery from me, but here's the stage i took before they took it :

it was a fucking awesome concert - dont have time now, but will see everyone soon (yeah!!!!) so will tell all bout it later (and hopefully will post tracklist later) but just to say that there was a lot of jumping and leg lifting, hehehe
ahh, i have things i want to say - like the fact that caits and i are goign to ani tomorrow night!!!!!!!!! so, so excited, hopes she plays some old stuff - itll be really nice to have a bit of a break from all the crazy shows weve been going to - but, its 12:30 and i have to shower and pack and make dads present before we leave - ehhh, were'd all my time go? hmm, probably where it always does
oh, last thing, happy hannukah

i just wrote a paper on this quote, and it's just so fucking perfect for everything i've been trying to explain forever about my view of characters (wow, sorry, that didn't make much sense, but just ignore it and read the quote)
"In books he had read, even those romances he swallowed during childhood, Patrick never believed that characters lived only on the page. they altered when teh author's eye was somewhere else. outside the plot tehre was a great darkness, but there would of course be daylight elsewhere on earth. each character had his own time zone, his own lamp, otherwise they were just men from nowhere" - michael ondaatje, in the skin of a lion

ahh, beautiful, beautiful concert (sits back and sighs happliy) matt was gorgeous, as always, flailing about with his head close to the ground most of the time, though he was on the keyboard a lot, which was awesome ohhhh, and he had the coolest two guitars, one was all white and the other was the cool shiny black and silver one, very chique and he wore a really cool black shirt with black embroidery that looked very, very nice (hehehhe)
okay, okay so it wasn't actually taken at our concert (has fingers crossed for digital cameras and christmas and concerts next quarter), but it was taken last time they were in chicago last april, so, it kinda counts, right?
let's see, they started with apocalypse please, played newborn really early (ahh, almost died, so fucking beautiful), plugin baby, sing for absolution (of course), the small print (haha, the only one i knew at waterstreet), micro cuts (beautiful high voice), citizen erased, a whole bunch more i'm blanking on at the moment, and the most fucking amazing version of time is running out ever, he didn't sing the first chorus and the crowd did and we were actually together (much more so than crazy french men singing low in our ears, hehe) and it was so fucking good . . .

i can't leave my house in fear of getting killed by water guns, so i thought i'd finally update (it's ben almost a month :-( sorry, we really should try better at using this as a form of communication) anyways, i'm doing my job and spreading all kinds of love
we're halfway through, and everyone liked it and, ahh, college life, really amazing, truly
then, last night, we got even some of the guys to watch parts of season two - we're getting quite a following (hugs the boys) i love them and was missing them so, it's like a fix i need to get every week or so or i start getting shaky and snappy and all kinds of awful withdrawal symptoms. is that bad?

ohhh, coheed was last wednesday - gods, i love claudio's hair!!! played everything but time consumer, and we managed to escape the mosh pit, so we were good and try when we left, but here's a picture of the outside of the beautiful riviera
hehe, so now you know where i see all my wonderful concerts :-) it's this beautiful old building, with all the paint peeling off where chandeliers were ripped from teh cieling and stuff, adn the acoustics are great, and i'm so fucking luck that i only lose my hearing for a couple of hours, so the sound is amazing!!
kay, so i have some really, really bad pictures from o-week, but so that eir and lizabeth can get a taste of everybody, here you go :

kay, it's 1:30, and i have to be up for a swim test at 7:30 tomorrow morning, but just have to update to tell everyone what a fucking wonderful place this is! linn house is awesome - it was wierd at first, cuz i felt like a little first year, back in kindergarden again, but then we had the purity test and were woken up at three am the first morning to walk 45 minutes to the lake, jump in, and walk back, and now everything is so fucking cool! spent the evening dancing to african drum music (linn house were the only dancers, i might add) and going through karl's itunes - the decembrists are fucking awesome, and i listened to some wierd techno music that you would love, eir. then, we played ultimate frisbee on the midway at midnight - we kicked ass and won both games, by far. it was fucking awesome!!!!!! kay, sorry, this is just like some stupid journal entry taht none of you really wanna read, but i'm just meeting soooo many people, and they all just know so much fucking stuff, and have soooo much music and are so enthusiastic to share it all. but, i really, really need to get in bed tomorrow so i can choose courses after swimming, but i love you all so fucking much, and don't ever think for a minute that i don't miss you all with this sharp, piercing pain every time i think about you, and even when i'm not, just cuz i'm excited. now, here's some brian for putting putting up with my long fucking post :
